La cultura
Rasta surgió en Kingston, Jamaica en los años 1930. Desde
entonces los Rastafaris se han esparcido por todas partes del mundo..
Cuba
esta a solo 100 millas de Jamaica pero no fue hasta el año 1980
que la juventud cubana inspirada en las ensenanzas de los Rastas presente
en la música Reggae de Bob Marley, una pequeña pero dedicada
comunidad se ha desarrollado.
Aunque
escaso en numero, la dedicacion de los Rastas cubanos a su dios Jah Rastafari!
se iguala a las mas veteranas hermandades procedentes de otras islas del
Caribe.
CRISTO
EN SU MAJESTUOSO CARACTER
Se dice que Marcus Garvey profetizó en los anos veinte; "Mira
a Africa cuando un rey negro debera ser coronado, porque el dia de la
resurreccion esta cerca". En 1930, un principe de Etiopia, Ras Tafari,
fue coronado "Haile Selassie, Emperador de Etiopia". El fue
inmediatamente conocido por un pequeno grupo de predicadores en Jamica
como el Mesia que regresará. Aunque en Cuba, Haile Selassie fue
descrito como un dictador malvado. En los anos 1770, Cuba participó
en el derrocamiento socialista de la monarquia de Selassie.

AFRICA
Los Rasta celebran sus raices africanas y alientan su retorno espiritual
o fisico a su verdadera patria. Los suenos de repatriacion de los Rastafaris
son establecidos en la campana de Marcus Garveyac "Regreso a Africa".
VIDA
EN BABILONIA
Los Rastas consideran la sociedad moderna haberse alejado de Dios, tal
y como sucedió con la biblica ciudad de Babilonia. Los Rastas cubanos
sufren casi tanta discriminación como los Rastas de Jamaica en
los anos 1930. Ellos son temidos y evitados por su estilo de vida único.
HEROINA
OLVIDADA DE LOS RASTAFARIS
Aunque frecuentemente escondida de los ojos publicos, las hermanas de
religion Rastas tienen poder detras de las escenas. El Emperador Haile
Selassie y la Emperatris Manen sentados uno al lado del otro en sus tronos,
ejemplifican la fuerza y el poder de ambos, hombre y mujer. Ellos son
llamdos Rey Alfa y Reina Omega, el comienzo y el fin.
ITAL
Ital significa puro, cercano a la naturaleza y descontaminado de la artificialidad.
Los Rastas Ortodoxos siguen una dieta vegetariana, la cual ellos creen
nutren la mente, el cuerpo y el espiritu. Ellos dicen, "no hagaz
un cementerio de tu estómago".
HIERBA
SAGRADA
Muchos Rastas fuman, toman o comen ganja (marihuana) para la meditacion
y la sanacion. Babilonia considera esta hierba sagrada una "droga"
e impone severas penalidades a aquellos que son atrapados utilizándola.
RELIGION
Hasta 1993, la práctica religiosa fue suprimida por el gobierno,
pero muchos cubanos fueron y todavia son criados en la religion Católica,
o en las religiones de bases Africanas común en los caribenos.
Los Rastas cubanos frecuentemente se acercan a esta herencia cultural,
uniendo elementos de la religión como hicieron sus ancestros africanos
durante la esclavitud. Sin embargo, su creencia de que Haile Selassie
es el Segundo regreso de Cristo es deshechada por los Cristianos,y su
monoteismo los pone en desacuerdo con las prácticas Afro-Cubanas.

The rastafarian culture
emerged in Kingston, Jamaica in the 1930s.
Rastafari has since spread throughout the world.
Cuba is only 100
miles from Jamaica but it wasn’t until the 1980’s when, inspired
by the Rastafarian teachings of superstar Bob Marley’s reggae music,
that a small but dedicated community of Rastas took root.
Though few in number,
Cuban Rastas' dedication to Jah Rastafari! (God) equals that of more seasoned
brethren from other Caribbean islandsthis is a test to seewhat will come to pass
CHRIST IN HIS KINGLY
CHARACTER
Marcus Garvey is said to have prophesied in the 1920s; "Look to Africa,
when a black king shall be crowned, for the day of redemption is near."
In 1930, an Ethiopian Prince, Ras Tafari, was crowned "Haile Selassie,
Emperor of Ethiopia". He was instantly acknowledged by a small group
of preachers in Jamaica as the returning Messiah. In Cuba however, Haile
Selassie was portrayed as an evil dictator. In the 1770s, Cuba participated
in the socialist overthrow of Selassie's monarchy.
MOTHER AFRICA
Rastas celebrate their African roots and encourage spiritual or physical
return to their true homeland. Rastafarian dreams of repatriation are
founded on Marcus Garvey's "Back to Africa" campaign.
LIFE IN BABYLON
Rastas consider modern society to have strayed far from God, just like
the biblical city of Babylon. Cuban Rastas suffer almost as much discrimination
as the Jamaican Rastas of the 1930s. They are feared and avoided for their
unique livity (lifestyle).
UNSUNG HEROINES
OF RASTAFARI
Though often hidden from the public eye, Rasta Sistren have power behind
the scenes. Emperor Haile Selassie and Empress Manen sitting side by side
on their thrones exemplify the strength and power of both men and women.
They are called King Alpha and Queen Omega, the beginning and the end.

Orthodox Rastas follow a vegetarian diet, which they believe nourishes
the mind, body and spirit. They say, "don't make a cemetery of your
stomach."
HOLY HERB
Many Rastas smoke, drink or eat ganja (marijuana) for meditation and healing.
Babylon deems this holy herb a "drug" and imposes severe penalties
on those who are caught utilizing it.
RELIGION
Until 1993, religious practice was suppressed by the government, but many
Cubans were, and still are, raised in the Catholic Church, or in the African-based
religions common to the Caribbean. Cuban Rastas often draw upon this cultural
legacy, blending religious elements as their African ancestors did during
slavery. However, their belief that Haile Selassie is the Second Coming
of Christ is dismissed by Christians, and their monotheism puts them at
odds with Afro-Cuban practices.this is a test to seewhat will come to pass
POSITIVE VIBRATIONS
Little by little, Cuban Rastas are learning more about their culture from
Rasta visitors, the internet and the messages of reggae music. These contacts
strengthen their commitment and build self-esteem in the face Babylon's
negative perception of them. The Rasta movement is a worldwide phenomenon
and Cuban Rastas want to be participants in the global community. |
